Rukungiri Municipality has disbursed Shs5.47 billion under the Parish Development Model (PDM) programme since 2022, benefiting thousands of residents across the municipality.
Richard Baguma, the Principal Commercial Officer at Rukungiri Municipality, revealed this during an interview with our reporter. He said that since the PDM was introduced in the municipality, a total of 5,006 beneficiaries have received funding.
“Under the PDM programme, each ward receives Shs100 million every financial year. With six wards in Rukungiri Municipality, this translates to Shs600 million distributed annually to support development projects and improve the livelihoods of residents,” Baguma stated.
He added that beneficiaries who received funds in 2022 have already started repaying the money after the two-year grace period elapsed.
“The municipality has started mobilization, training sessions, and ward-level meetings to guide beneficiaries on how to make repayments, especially now that the process is being conducted through the Wendi system,” Baguma highlighted.
